
What Is An Electronic Portfolio?
An electronic portfolio is an assessment method using digital technology to store student work, learn real world technology skills, and evaluate student development and achievement over time.
Electronic Portfolio Assessment Goals:
- Electronic portfolios provide an efficient means of collecting student work from year to year which allows an authentic view of student learning across the curriculum.
- Electronic portfolios provide the medium through which technology can be authentically integrated and meaningfully used in the curriculum to enhance the teaching/learning process.
Electronic Portfolio Assessment Outcomes:
- Students increase their awareness of the learning process by selecting and reflecting on best work and pieces showing evidence of learning.
- Students develop proficiency working with various electronic formats: textual, graphical, and audio-visual.
- Students develop proficiency working with related technologies, such as scanners, video cameras, digital cameras, A/V and graphic software, and hyper-linking applications.
- Students learn to efficiently and effectively access electronic resources, such as the Internet, CD-ROMs, and electronic library resources.
- Students become clear and effective communicators.
- Students become creative and practical problem solvers.
- Students become collaborative and quality workers.
- Students create a digital and/or video archive of their best pieces and reflections, documenting their progress, effort, achievement, and development over the course of their education.
- Teachers increase their technological literacy and meaningfully integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Students, teachers, and parents receive a more holistic and authentic evaluation of students' learning over time.
- Parents become more involved in the assessment process by setting learning goals with students.
