
Hardware Requirements
The minimum machine configuration for creating an electronic portfolio:
- 8 MB RAM
- a 13-inch, 256-color monitor
- System 7.5 or above (Macintosh)
- 486-66mHz processor minimum (Windows)
- As much hard disk space as possible
A rich portfolio may require up to:
- 600K (for text alone)
- 2 MB (for text, pictures, and sound)
- 20 MB or more (for text, pictures, sound, and movies)
It is strongly recommended that you have access to:
- A CD-ROM drive
- A backup system such as a Magneto Optical drive, a SyQuest drive, or an external hard disk with as much memory as possible
- A network server to store portfolios
- As many workstations for students as possible
Optional Resources The following items can greatly enhance the portfolio creation process. With them, you will be able to include video and artwork, among other media, in your portfolios. These items also expand your options for storing, transferring, and backing up portfolios.
- Video input and output device (a video capable computer and a video camera)
- Color flat-bed scanner {We are currently using Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5P's}
- Digital camera {We use Apple QuickTake 200's, although there are better cameras now on the market}
- Microphone or other sound recording device
- Image processing software with the tools to crop, size, and touch up pictures
- Video compression and editing software
- Sound editing software
